Middle-earth: Shadow of War Orc will pay tribute to late producer
Proceeds from the purchase of the character will be donated to family
One of Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s more unstoppable warriors, the Forthog Orcslayer, is being included as a tribute to the game’s late executive producer, Mike “Forthog” Forgey.
Warner Bros. Interactive announced today on Steam that part of the proceeds made from the sale of the character would be donated to Forgey’s family. For every $4.99 Forthog Orcslayer purchase made in the U.S., WBIE will donate $3.50. Forgey died from cancer during the game’s development.
According to Monolith Productions, the development team behind Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the Forthog Orcslayer is “an unstoppable warrior who saves Mordor’s mightiest heroes at their moment of greatest need.” The team decided to include the character in the game as a way of keeping their friend’s legacy alive, adding the “legendary Forthog Orcslayer is our way to continue having Mike leap into battle and save us when we're down.”
Forgey was one of the leading developers on Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and previously worked
on titles including Gears of War, Fable, Conker and Perfect Dark Zero. In 2015, a YouCaring page was setup to help raise funds for Forgey’s medical treatment with a goal of raising $300,000. More than $100,000 was raised, but on March 3, 2016, Forgey passed away.
The Forthog Orcslayer is currently available to pre-order through Steam. Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be released for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on Oct. 10.
