However, the dark horse that took the #1 spot was a car mount that normally costs about $8. A good old-fashioned flash drive came in at the #4 spot.

Hands-free driving is something that an encouraging (and surprising) amount of us seem to care about. This car mount surprised us and ended up being the top-selling item among Insider Picks readers. Last year, customers who purchased gift cards got a $10 credit added to their Amazon account, which made this one an expected top-seller. Free money whether it comes as a gift from a friend or from Amazon is pretty ideal.

The SoundSport earbuds are among our favorite affordable options for someone looking for high-quality sound. Last year, this pair saw a 50% discount and Amazon customers responded with enthusiasm.

Another surprise from last year came in the form of flash drives. Although, with an increasing amount of our lives held in data that has to go somewhere, it makes sense. Especially if you're like me and never have enough storage space on your devices.

The Amazon Echo is technically a Bluetooth speaker, but you wouldn’t buy one just to play music. You can ask for the weather, control smart lights, search the web, order from Alexa Deals (and save a lot sometimes by doing so), as well as thousands of other "skills."
