Our goal at Insider Picks is to feature deals that we think you — our readers — might like.
As the e-commerce marketplace steadily grows more crowded and the internet more vast, it can be hard to test every option out there in search of the best value for your dollar. Who has the time?
The goal for us is to make navigating all of the options easier and to help you make the most of your money on the products you care about. In order to do that, we have to find out what it is our readers care about in the first place.
Days like Amazon’s Prime Day where over 100,000 items are all heavily discounted is one exaggerated way for us to see how on the mark we really are with what we feature. Since a high percentage of readers are taking advantage of thousands of deals in one day, it's a pretty great opportunity for us to look at what it is you guys want.
Thanks to being around the block a few times, we’ve gotten pretty good at anticipating needs and trends, but some things still creep up and surprise us. For instance, it probably doesn’t surprise anybody that external chargers and smart home devices earned more than a few spots in the top 10 best-selling Prime Day products from 2016 for Insider Picks readers. However, the dark horse that took the #1 spot was a car mount that normally costs about $8. A good old-fashioned flash drive came in at the #4 spot.
Data like this helps us get better at talking about the subjects that matter most to our readers, and it’s something we take seriously. We're excited to come back better than ever this year, reading through our lists and checking them twice against what you did (and didn’t) buy for yourself.
Hands-free driving is something that an encouraging (and surprising) amount of us seem to care about. This car mount surprised us and ended up being the top-selling item among Insider Picks readers. It attaches to your dashboard and holds your phone in place so you can better check GPS, quickly control music, or make calls and texts in a safer, more convenient way.
Last year, customers who purchased gift cards got a $10 credit added to their Amazon account, which made this one an expected top-seller. Free money whether it comes as a gift from a friend or from Amazon is pretty ideal.
The SoundSport earbuds are among our favorite affordable options for someone looking for high-quality sound. Last year, this pair saw a 50% discount and Amazon customers responded with enthusiasm.
Another surprise from last year came in the form of flash drives. Although, with an increasing amount of our lives held in data that has to go somewhere, it makes sense. Especially if you're like me and never have enough storage space on your devices.
5. Amazon Echo
The Amazon Echo is technically a Bluetooth speaker, but you wouldn’t buy one just to play music. You can ask for the weather, control smart lights, search the web, order from Alexa Deals (and save a lot sometimes by doing so), as well as thousands of other "skills."
Starting a 9 p.m. ET on July 10, 2017, Amazon Prime members can pick up the Amazon Echo for $89.99 — its lowest price ever!
6. Amazon Fire TV Stick
Many of us are opting to cut cords in our lives wherever and whenever possible. For anyone opting for streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video over traditional cable TV, it makes sense to grab a device that can make using them all seamless.
7. Fire 7 Tablet
V
The Amazon Fire tablet sets the standard for low priced tablets, and on Prime Day 2016 it was available for $33.33, which was its lowest price ever.
This Prime Day, the best-selling tablet, which now has Alexa support, will be available for even less — at $29.99 for the 8GB version.
8. Instant Pot 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker
Want delicious food for less effort and time? You might want to grab Instant Pot's multi-cooker. It makes cooking at home easier and more enjoyable, so you'll wind up eating home more often and dumping less money into takeout.
Last year, Amazon said it sold 215,000 pressure cookers. The Instant Pot pictured here was a top seller and available for $50 less than its usual price.
9. Quick Charge 2.0 AUKEY 5-Port USB Charger
Another no-brainer on this list is the AUKEY Quick Charge. Whether we like it or not, being alive in the 21st century increasingly means being connected through technology at all times, even if we aren't near a charging port at all times. This Quick Charge helps fix that last problem on the go.
10. AUKEY 20000mAh Power Bank
Taking two of the top 10 spots for best-selling products in 2016, it's obvious that keeping our devices full of juice even when on the road is something that most of us can get behind. Where convenience is concerned, we're a bit more willing to jump for a discount.
